Questioning the Goodness of God?

Often, we get overwhelmed and life does not go according to what we planned or expected. We do live in a broken world. When the goodness of God comes into question, remind yourself of the following three points:

*We should not confuse God with life. God gives life but He is not life itself. God views life from another dimension than us. This earthly life that we have assigned, is but a vapor (James 4:14), so fleeting. Eternity starts when we leave this body and continues forever…

Psalm 63 : 3-4 NKJV

3 “Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You.
Thus I will bless You while I live;”

*We should distinguish between physical reality versus spiritual reality-

“I try not to confuse God with life. I have learned to see beyond physical reality in this world to spiritual reality. We tend to think that life should be fair because God is fair. But God is not life.  And if I confuse God with the physical reality of life, for example expecting constant good health, then I set myself up for a crashing disappointment.”   Author Unknown

*Read scripture intelligently, paying careful attention to what we read for example:

James 1 :2-4 NKJV

2 “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trialsknowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”

Often as Christians, we think that we are not supposed to face problems in life. Yet, God’s word says when we fall into various trials. It does not say if! We will face trials and many different types of trials and problems…

James does not give us any indication that God will always remove all difficulty from our lives.

We should always remember that God determined the death of His own Son and therefore it is foolish to think that we are so special that somehow favorable circumstances should always come our way because God will not determine anything less.

*Consider the greatest good

God Himself is our greatest good and thus it stands that what makes something good is whether it brings us more of God or closer to God-

Psalm 34:10 NKJV

8 “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him.”

Psalm 16:1-3 NKJV

“Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust. O my soul, you have said to the Lord,

“You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.” As for the saints who are on the earth, “They are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight.””

2nd Corinthians 12: 8-10 NKJV

8 “Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

God sees things so much differently than what we do, trust Him…

Stay blessed and know that God is Good,
